  • NOTES

* This Week’s Camping World RV Sales Chevrolet at Chicagoland Speedway … Clint Bowyer will pilot Chassis No. 066 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Nationwide Series stable. This is the same Camping World RV Sales Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Bowyer raced to a ninth-place finish last month at Kentucky Speedway. Formerly a No. 21 Chevy, this is the same car Timothy Peters raced at Kentucky last season (St. 23 – Fn. 17). Since then, the car has been completely rebuilt and outfitted with all the NASCAR-mandated 2008 updates.

* Camping World Colors at Chicagoland … After sporting its traditional burgundy and gold BB&T colors last weekend at Daytona, Bowyer’s No. 2 Chevy will showcase a Camping World RV Sales paint scheme this weekend at Chicagoland. * It’s Hard Argue with the Numbers … In four Nationwide Series starts at Chicagoland Speedway, Bowyer has one top five, three top 10s and only finished outside the top seven once. His lone 42nd-place finish came in 2004 when rear-end problems sidelined his Andy Petree Racing-owned No. 33 Chevy 17 laps in to the 200-lap event. * Bowyer in the Loop …

o Average Running Position … According to NASCAR’s Loop Data Statistics, Bowyer leads the Average Running Position category with an 8.338 ARP. The ARP is derived from taking the sum of a driver’s position on each lap and dividing it by the number of laps run in each race.

o Laps in the Top 15 … Meanwhile, the Nationwide Series point leader has spent 3,125 of the 3,449 laps completed this season (90.6 percent) running in the top 15.

o Driver Rating … Bowyer also enjoys a 106.7 Driver Rating – second only to Kyle Busch (112.5). The Driver Rating is a formula that combines the following categories: wins, top-15 finishes, average running position while on the lead lap, average speed under green, fastest lap, most laps led and lead-lap finishes. The maximum a driver can earn in each race is 150 points. The Driver Rating number is used pre-race as a prediction tool and post-race as a performance evaluator.

o Laps Led … Bowyer has led 340 laps in Nationwide Series competition this season and trails only Busch and two-time Sprint Cup Series Champion Tony Stewart in that category.

* Daytona Diary … Bowyer led six laps last weekend at Daytona and went on to finish fourth - his eighth top-five finish of 2008 and ninth consecutive top 10. Meanwhile, the six-time NASCAR Nationwide Series winner increased his point lead to 202 markers ahead of second-place Brad Keselowski. Carl Edwards sits in third, 218 points behind Bowyer, David Reutimann is fourth, 226 back and David Ragan is fifth, 325 out of the top spot.

* Sweet Home Chicago … Matt Swiderski, team engineer on Bowyer’s No. 2 Chevy is a native of Garden Homes, Ill., located approximately 20 minutes northeast of Chicagoland Speedway. Swiderski, 27, has been an employee of RCR since January 2005.

* Meet the Press … Bowyer will meet with the gathered press outside the No. 07 Jack Daniel’s transporter inside the Sprint Cup Series garage area Thursday, July 10 at 2 p.m.

* RCR Nationwide Cars at Chicago … RCR has won three Nationwide Series races at Chicagoland Speedway with two different drivers. Johnny Sauter won in 2002 and Kevin Harvick drove to the Winner’s Circle in 2005 and again in 2007. In 17 NNS starts at the 1.5 mile tri-oval, RCR-prepared entries have earned eight top-five and 12 top-10 finishes. RCR cars have also led 217 laps at the suburban Chicago race course.

* 2008 RCR Nationwide Report … In 47 Nationwide Series starts this season, RCR has claimed two victories –Bowyer (Bristol) and Scott Wimmer (Nashville) – 14 top-five and 32 top-10 finishes with five different drivers including Bowyer, Jeff Burton, Bobby Labonte, Stephen Leicht and Wimmer. Additionally, the three RCR Nationwide teams (Nos. 2, 21 and 29) have led a total of 430 laps.

Live coverage of the 19th stop on the 2008 Sprint Cup Series tour will take the green flag Saturday, July 12 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. • CLINT BOWYER QUOTES

How do you feel about the point’s situation in the Nationwide Series and how involved are you on a day-to-day basis?

“Certainly I see the preparation and see the work being put into place. It is somewhat surprising that we haven’t run as well lately as we have in the past. We’ve struggled a little more. Obviously, the competition is right there. We knew what we were getting into when we decided to run for the Nationwide championship. I’ve said from day one that the champion isn’t going to be the one who wins the most races, it’s going to be the team who is the most consistent and makes the fewest mistakes. That’s what we’re trying to do. I feel pretty strongly that we’re a little bit behind on the Toyotas in a few areas but until something changes, we have to make sure we don’t step out of bounds and make a mistake.”

Can you afford to be aggressive or do you have to play it safe?

“You have to race as hard as you can. You have to be patiently aggressive every weekend. If you’re not at least a little aggressive, you’re not going to run up front anywhere or in any kind of series. You have to be aggressive but you have to use your head about it. You have to race as hard as you can and not make mistakes.”

What do you expect from the Camping World Chevrolet at Chicago?

“I’m looking forward to it. Hopefully, we can pad our point lead. I think our lead is 202 right now but that’s not enough. We need more. We have to race smart. We have to race hard and not make mistakes.”
