No. 2 BB&T Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS - Event Preview Fact Sheet - Event/Date: Camping World 300 – August 30, 2008 - Venue: Auto Club Speedway of Southern California – Fontana, Calif.

  • NOTES:

* This Week’s BB&T Chevrolet at Auto Club Speedway of Southern California … Clint Bowyer will pilot Chassis No. 076 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Nationwide Series stable. This is a brand-new BB&T Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS that will be put through its first paces this weekend at Auto Club Speedway.

* The Truth … In six previous Nationwide Series starts at California Speedway, Bowyer boasts two poles and three top-five finishes. The Emporia, Kan., native has a rock-solid 6.8 starting average coupled with an impressive 8.3 average finish at the two-mile D-Shaped oval. Over those same six races, Bowyer has completed all 900 laps of competition and earned just shy of $250,000. * Bowyer in the Loop …

o Average Running Position … According to NASCAR’s Loop Data Statistics, Bowyer leads the Average Running Position category with an 8.713 ARP. The ARP is derived from taking the sum of a driver’s position on each lap and dividing it by the number of laps run in each race. He has also recorded 8.122 ARP over his six starts at Auto Club Speedway.

o Laps in the Top 15 … Meanwhile, the Nationwide Series point leader has spent 4,149 of the 4,554 laps completed this season (91.1 percent) running in the top 15.

o Driver Rating … Bowyer also enjoys a 104.3 Driver Rating this season – second only to Kyle Busch (114.8). The Driver Rating is a formula that combines the following categories: wins, top-15 finishes, average running position while on the lead lap, average speed under green, fastest lap, most laps led and lead-lap finishes. The maximum a driver can earn in each race is 150 points. The Driver Rating number is used pre-race as a prediction tool and post-race as a performance evaluator.

o Laps Led … Bowyer has led 462 laps in Nationwide Series competition this season and trails only Busch and two-time Sprint Cup Series Champion Tony Stewart in that category.

* RCR Nationwide Cars in Fontana … In 29 NNS starts in Fontana, RCR has earned one win, (Jeff Burton – September 2007) three poles (Bowyer - September 2006 & 2005; Kevin Harvick April 2003), 12 top-five and 18 top-10 finishes. RCR Nationwide cars have also led 250 laps at Auto Club Speedway.

* Bristol in the Rear View … Bowyer dominated much of last Friday night’s Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway but ultimately had to settle for a second-place finish. The six-time winner in NASCAR’s No. 2 division led once for 121 laps, earning 10 valuable bonus points for leading the most laps, and extended his points lead by nine in the Nationwide Series championship point standings. At the same time, Richard Childress Racing’s No. 2 team is now just 103 behind the No. 20 entry of Joe Gibbs Racing in the owner’s championship points from the 318 back less than a week ago.

* Nine and Counting … Over the season’s first 26 Nationwide Series races, Bowyer has posted one win (Bristol), nine top-five and 21 top-10 finishes. At the same time, the Nationwide Series point leader has logged an impressive ninth-place starting and finishing average. He has completed 4,528 of the 4,554 laps run this season (99.42 percent) and led 462 laps.

* An American Icon … Harley-Davidson plans to end the summer motorcycle season with a blowout event and RCR sponsor Shell is gearing up for the celebration. As the exclusive fuel sponsor of the Harley-Davidson® 105th Anniversary Celebration, Shell will mark the occasion with an exciting lineup of events taking place in Milwaukee throughout the four-day event -- August 28-31. In addition to meeting Bowyer, event goers will have the opportunity to test their driving skills with the No. 07 and No. 29 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series show cars and racing simulators and get a first hand feel of what it’s like to be in the pits with the Shell Tire Change Challenge.

  • CLINT BOWYER QUOTES

You’ve been moderately successful at California. Is that a race track you look forward too?

“I enjoy the race track. I think the groove is starting to open up a little bit and that makes for better racing. We’ve run pretty well out there but we’ve come up a little short when it comes to racing for the win. We’ve got a brand new car we’re taking out there so I’m excited to get going and see what we’ve got.”

Are you points-racing yet and or are you just trying to let all of that take care of itself?

“I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t paying attention to the points but at the same time, we just need to keep doing what we’ve been doing and kick it up a notch like we did last week at Bristol. The owner’s points are all of a sudden back within reach so a lot of things are happening. I’ve said all along, that this championship isn’t going to come down to who wins the most races, it’s going to be about who makes the least amount of mistakes and that’s exactly how its playing out.”
