Dover seems like a track that fits your driving style. Is it a race track where you’re able to control your own destiny a little more than some of the other tracks the Sprint Cup Series visits? “Dover is one of those tracks where you want to win. At some of these mile-and-a-half tracks, you’re only as good as the equipment and you really don’t have much of a say so. At places like Bristol, Dover, Daytona and Talladega, you have to make things happen. If the car isn’t handing, you can pick up your end of the deal and make something happen. I won the Nationwide race at Dover the last time I ran it and I want to get a Sprint Cup win as well.” You raced the new-style car twice at Dover last year. How did it react? “The car raced well. We were a top-three car last fall but got caught up in the incident with Denny (Hamlin) and Kyle Petty. Our car was fast in both races at Dover last year so, hopefully, we can back that up.” Was it tough transitioning to the new car at Dover last season? “We adapted fairly well. We definitely had to work on our shock travels because this car really limits your travels but I have all the confidence in Gil (crew chief Gil Martin) and all the guys on the DIRECTV Chevrolet to make it happen. You have to be careful so you aren’t slamming the front end on the ground when you’re going around the track. You can’t have the splitter on the race track. The smoother you make that transition of travel, the better of you are.”
