Brickyard 400 Race Report

Clint Bowyer Race Summary: No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota driver Clint Bowyer staged an impressive comeback to finish 15th in Sunday’s 400-mile NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Bowyer started 33rd and raced to about 20th during the first quarter of the 160-lap race that ran caution free. On a lap 47, Bowyer and another car made contact cutting Bowyer’s left front tire. The cut tire sent Bowyer into a spin that ended in the infield with minor damage to his Toyota. Bowyer came to pit road for repairs and dropped to 31st. The Michael Waltrip Racing team slowly worked its way back into contention during the remainder of the race securing the 15th place finish. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returns to action on Sunday at Pocono Raceway.

·Started 33rd and finished 15th

·Suffered minor damage after a cut tire forced a spin on lap 47

·Spin dropped him back to 31st

·Battled back to 15th

·10th in points with 55 point lead over 11th place.

BOWYER: ““Hats off to Brian Pattie (crew chief) first and foremost for as bad as we were yesterday to be able to go through the notes and come up with a good package. Early on in the race we took off and went up through there like gangbusters. I’m like, ‘We’re going to be alright here.’ Just was racing and got on that outside -- them outsides on the restarts, you’re in no man’s land. You try to get to the bottom as quick and efficiently as possible, but the 31 (Jeff Burton) got to the inside of the 42 (Juan Pablo Montoya) and I realized that I was three-wide on the outside and tried to get out of there and just barely caught in the left-front and cut my tire down, spun out. Anytime you spin out on a track like this, you usually end up crashing in the infield. Just thankfully everything worked out and we ended up with a top-15. Not what we wanted, but it could have been a heck of a lot worse.”
